WHO WE ARE
More than thirty years ago a young man from "la Valduerna" region in León, went through this province and the neighbouring Zamora one, in the search, so difficult as exciting, of minerals and rocks.
He took on the quarries' exploitation with several materials such as quartz or silica, feldspar, kaolinite, agate, slate and finally with the ornamental quartzite and natural mineral water.
In 2003, is established the company CUARCITAS DEL TELENO, S.L. which will go on with the ornamental rock activity.
This company is based in the Spanish county of León, which nowadays cooperate with quarries from the region of the "la Maragatería", an area which stretches from de city of Astorga to the Teleno mountain range.
A land with a hard climatology where for a long time its inhabitants built wide and strong buildings as refuge against frosts and wintry colds. It was the region's natural stone the one who stood out as reliable material and remained unchanging with the passage of time.
Constructions tradiccionales in the zone and pavements in thoroughfares show the longevity of our stone of which Castrillo's urban environment of the Polvazares (León) is the whole example.
Its quality and hardness, together with the physical characteristics of quartzites which constitutes the sourroundings of the "Sierra de Teleno", and the easy way of cutting in, will allow us to get a little thickness stone or flagstone. It's the "Telenita" stone who is ideal to be used in wall cladding and floors.
It's also extracted a "block" or paving natural stone in an ochre colour with brown-reddish shades (according to its iron oxide content) which is called "Astorga quartzite".
